WAVERLEY’S Premier League men rued missed chances against third-placed Powerhouse in their clash at Hedley Hull Field on Saturday.

In a physical and fastpaced game, Waverley was unable to capitalise on the opportunities it created in front of goals and went down 1-0.

Powerhouse scored midway through the first half after a well-executed penalty corner.

The Panthers controlled large parts of the game through intense defensive pressure and strong midfield possession.
Tom Scott was, again, solid in the net for Waverley and frustrated the Powerhouse strikers.

But, simple errors during attacking penalty corners cost the Panthers dearly.

Coach Adrian Kucyk said, overall, he was happy with the team’s performance but work will be required in the side’s attacking 25m to ensure the Panthers don’t miss these opportunities again.

“Our patience and work rate were up there today,” he said. “It was just our final touch that let us down.”

The Panthers face Hawthorn, away, this Sunday in what will, no doubt, be a tough encounter.

Meanwhile, Waverley’s Premier League reserves side won 2-1 in a tight contest, the win pushing them closer to the top four.

And, Waverley’s Premier League women beat Powerhouse/St Kilda 3-1 in the second game.
